This course is designed for students with little or no prior flying experience and is an intensive 26-week full time course delivered by Airwork Helicopters at Caboolture Airport. This course is an ideal pathway for students seeking a career as a commercial pilot in the aviation industry.

This qualification involves the skills and knowledge required to obtain a Commercial Pilot Licence (Helicopter), in compliance with relevant regulatory requirements of the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) and national operating standards.

It addresses the competency standards in the Civil Aviation Safety Regulations (CASRs) Part 61 Manual of Standards Instrument.

The program delivers 29 Units of Competency and 105 hours of aeronautical experience. Upon successful completion you will receive:

  • Commercial Pilot Licence (CPL)
  • Low Level Rating
  • AVI50319 Diploma of Aviation (Commercial Pilot Licence – Helicopter)

    TAFE Queensland and Airwork Helicopters have a Third Party Agreement for the delivery of the accredited qualification, AVI50319 Diploma of Aviation (Commercial Pilot Licence – Helicopter).
    Under this arrangement TAFE Queensland is the Registered Training Organisation (RTO 0275) and is responsible for issuing the AQF certification documentation for the qualification. Airwork Helicopters conducts training and assessment services on behalf of TAFE Queensland.

    The normal training days are Monday to Friday (excluding public holidays) from 8:00am to 4:00pm, however this may vary due to weather or other factors.

    Included in the course cost is theory training, 105 hours of flight training and practical experience, flight briefing, textbooks, exam fees (first sitting and first re-sit if required), navigational equipment, local navigational charts and flight tests.

    Caboolture Airport is an ideal training location, just a 30 to 40 minute drive north of the Brisbane CBD. It is located outside controlled airspace, so you do not experience air traffic control delays, but it is close to busy controlled airspace to enhance your training as your experience builds.

    Additionally, we have excellent sub-tropical weather all year.

    You will begin your training in either the Robinson R22 or Bell 47G.

    The following are the entry requirements for enrolment in the AVI50319 Diploma of Aviation (Commercial Pilot Licence – Helicopter) Prospective students must have the following items:

  • Aviation Reference Number (ARN)
  • Produce evidence of a current Aviation Class 1 Medical.
  • Be in possession of, or in the process of applying for a current Aviation Security Identification Card (ASIC) for flight crew.
  • Be eligible to obtain English Language Proficiency to meet the minimum requirements set by CASA.
  • Be a minimum of 18 years of age prior to the completion of the course to enrol in the qualification.
  • Beneficial to have completed Year 12 with passes in Math & English; or, successful completion at the required level (exit Level 3 working at Level 4) of the Basic Key Skills Builder (BKSB) assessment through TAFE Queensland.
  • Obtain a Unique Student Identifier (USI) before enrolling in the course.
  • A device suitable for accessing online exam-prep material (Laptop,iPad,etc.).
